Food Industry

Industrial production demands efficient production technology due to the constant rise in the number of processed foods, the increase in reusable packaging and high throughput volumes. Intelligent atomisation systems can make a vital contribution here.

Air atomizing nozzles provide the best solution for coating applications in the food industry.  Most liquids being applied have a high viscosity.  Hydraulic nozzles spraying them tend to clog as a result.  Atomizing nozzles provide better spraying capabilities.

Full cone nozzles are often used in thermal processing to cool or heat packaged food items, such as canned produce. The full cone nozzle distributes the spray evenly in the circular pattern and as a result the temperatures remain constant throughout the process. Full cone nozzles work best when the target is static.  This spray method also conserves on water consumption.

Humidification

Humidification

Frozen foods are exposed to various temperatures which can change their physical appearance, taste, and composition.  This change is commonly referred to as “freezer burn”.  Air atomizing nozzles can prevent these changes by applying a fine mist of liquid to the food prior to freezing.

Package Drying

Package Drying

The exterior packaging used for foods and beverages is often damaged during the filling process. For this reason, air nozzles are used to redirect the excess liquids or food substances away from the package to avoid any damage.  This is an inexpensive drying method because due to the controlled nature of the WHISPERBLAST, limited compressed air is used.

Tank Sanitizing

Tank Sanitizing

Static spray balls work best for applications with easy to remove soils that only require a light rinse.  These nozzles typically consume more water and orifices can become clogged, resulting in voids in coverage.  Rotating spray devices provide better impact and spray coverage for sanitizing tanks with more difficult soils including: mayonnaise, dressings, corn syrups, and baked-on whey's and proteins. Rotating spray devices are categorized by free-spinning and gear-driven.

Flat fan and Full cone nozzles are the most common nozzles used for washing produce, meats and other packaged food items. Lechler offers several nozzles for washing foods.
