Innovative solutions for NOx removal

The energy we consume, the waste we dispose of and the infrastructure we live in all contribute to air pollution, which is a growing concern of the EPA.  Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) is the main culprit of all this and the largest producers are waste to energy, cement and power plants.  At dangerous levels, NOx can cause respiratory problems and other adverse health effects.

There are methods of reducing NOx emissions but this requires plants to make changes to their current operating processes.  Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) are two systems that reduce nitrogen and water through a series of reactions with a reagent that is injected into the flue gas.  This quickly evaporates the pollutant before it reaches the environment or catalyst.

Through research and development, Lechler has developed twin fluid nozzles and systems for fluctuating NOx concentrations.  Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a highly advanced simulation software used by engineers to simulate temperature, gas distribution and ammonia NOx centration for injection locations.  Custom lances can be designed for any process ensuring optimum placement and alignment of the spray pattern in the flue duct.

Cement plants have been growing in size, are also affected by the strict emission requirements and are constantly under pressure to invest and innovate operations.  Cement plants can benefit from Lechler’s SNCR system, which provides reliability, efficiency and reduces maintenance costs with ease of operation at both start up and full load.Read the full article here.
